At Titan Packaging, we never shy away from a challenge, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the UK Packaging Awards for the categories ‘Innovation of the Year’ and ‘Corrugated Pack of The Year’.

This nomination came after we were tasked with designing a bespoke packaging solution for a leading British bike manufacturer.

When the award-winning bike manufacturer and retailer approached us, they’d been to several packaging companies that couldn’t meet the requirements of their brief.

At Titan, we found that designing and manufacturing a unique packaging solution to suit very specific requirements is like riding a bike…

The challenges of bicycle packaging

In the bicycle industry, assembling part or nearly all of the bicycle once it’s been delivered is commonplace.

However, the assembly process for bespoke bikes leaves room for error, as the pedals, handles, gears and other parts may not be put in the correct position, meaning the customer doesn’t realise the full benefits of their made-to-measure bike.

The assembly process can also damage the bike, which is costly and impacts the return and refund rate.

Putting Titan Packaging to the test

To combat all of this, the global cycling brand needed a fully recyclable, plastic-free packaging solution that would protect their custom-made, pre-built bicycles from the moment they left the workshop right up until they got to their customer’s front door.

Each bike is bespoke, which meant that the packaging would have to cater to different shapes and sizes, without touching the frame of the bike.

So, we put the wheels in motion and designed a ride-ready packaging solution that is 100% recyclable, and offers complete protection without compromising on customer experience.

From the cardboard down to the reusable velcro straps, all the packaging is made from recycled materials and is then recycled by the courier after they’ve carefully unboxed the bike for the customer. This meant the customer got a truly unique unboxing experience and they didn’t have to dispose of the packaging themselves.

The large cardboard box contains 8 different components that can be moved to suit the position of the handlebars, gears and pedals, ensuring ultimate security without touching the frame.

But the complexities didn’t stop there. Holding packaging stock takes up space and risks capital.

We got our operations and logistics into the right gear, which ensures they have the right amount of packaging when they need it, so that they’re not wasting valuable space.

The global bike manufacturers said:

We liked Titan’s approach to a project and how efficient, creative and reliable they are. The team at Titan sold the partnership to us, without them it may not have come to fruition.”

Being nominated for these prestigious awards in these categories demonstrates Titan’s commitment to thinking outside the box.

We pride ourselves on delivering innovative, cost-effective and sustainable packaging solutions that deliver the very best customer service. Speak to Titan Packaging today.
